Growing Petunias

Petunia flowers are one of summer's popular annual flowers. They are a very delicate looking plant from the leaves all the way to the blossoms.

The flowers come in mainly girly colors such as reds, pinks and purples. They do however, come in other colors as well.

Some Petunias are all one color, while others can be two colors of the same shade. The outer portion of the petals is a paler shade of color, while from the center and spreading out along the flower's petals is a deeper shade of the color.

The petals are very delicate looking and the shape of this flower kind of makes me think of seashells. It is a funnel shaped flower, but to me, I see seashells!

The leaves are also very delicate looking. They are a bright mint green color, and several leaves grow along a thin stem.

This plant is a very versatile plant that looks great anywhere you choose to grow it. You can arrange them in a flowerbed, use some Petunias for a window box, or even grow them in pots that you arrange on a front porch.

Basically, do what you want with them, grow them wherever you want, and you will have a fabulous summer flower.

Begin to plant your Petunias at the end of spring or the beginning of summer. If you are planting seeds, start them indoors about 10 weeks before the last frost. I tend to begin growing my seeds in March.

Plant the seeds over top of the potting soil, but do not cover them. Make sure the potting soil is moist.

Keep them on a window that gets a decent amount of sun, and do not transplant them into pots until you begin to see seedlings.

After you plant them in pots, keep them indoors until frost season is over. Once it's safe outside, plant the flowers in the ground, water theme regularly and watch them grow!

When Petunias begin to die, the dead blossoms sort of just hang around. Check you plant regularly to remove any dead flowers.

Other then that, water it regularly and that's about all the maintenance required. Enjoy your pretty summer plant!
