Spring Flowers and Plants

Brunnera Macrophylla

Brunnera Macrophylla also known as Siberian Bugloss is a member of the perennial family. It blooms from the middle of spring until the end of spring.

This plant has great big bright green leaves that are accompanied by tiny light blue flowers.

After the flowers die off for the season, the leaves remain. The leaves look huge compared to the size of the flowers!

When you see this plant you may notice the leaves first. They are very large in size, but they look beautiful. Even if they never bloomed flowers, this plant would still be a great plant to look at.

Out from the giant leaves, grow tiny thin stems. Along these stems grow the little light blue flowers.

Planting this perennial in your garden will surely brighten even the darkest spots.

This plant can grow to be about 1 to 1 1/2 feet tall.

Once you plant it, it will spread. It grows out and will fill up any space.

If you are thinking of planting Siberian Bugloss, plant the plants 1 to 1 1/2 feet apart. Remember it spreads!

The good thing with this plant is that it will grow in areas with full shade, partial shade, or even full sun. It is a very versatile plant.

Plant it in well-drained soil that is kept very moist.

This plant can be propagated in the fall. Just divide the plant and plant it in an area that you would like more to grow.

Basket of Gold

Basket of Gold (Aurinia Saxatilis) is a type of perennial. This means you can plant it once, and it will grow back year after year.

This is a plant that grows very full and lush. It looks great as a border plant for edging around your spring gardens. If you plant the seeds about 12 inches apart you will have a gorgeous garden full of these beautiful yellow flowers.

The color of this plant is a bright yellow, gold color hence the name. It really does brighten up any spring garden.

When growing Aurinia make sure your soil is very well drained. After all, this is a very rugged flower and can live in even the worst of droughts.

The flowers needs lots of sunlight. Do not plant it near any trees. Find a spot in your yard that gets the most sunlight, and you’ll have the most luck getting them to grow.

Aurinia actually grows best in the mountains. They are a popular plant to grow in rock gardens. They can grow to be anywhere from 6 to 12 inches tall.

It needs to be planted in the fall in order to grow in the spring. As I have said before, plant the seeds about 12 inches apart because they need space to grow.

You can also grow this plant by tip cutting. Cut the tips around the end of spring to the beginning of summer. Then plant the cultivars about 4 inches apart.

Aurinia Saxatilis does not need much to survive, other then plenty of sunlight. When you water them, do not water too much, as your plant will drown, and you certainly wouldn’t want that.

This is such a pretty plant to add to your garden and it is definitely a low maintenance plant, which is always nice. It will eventually grow to be a large beautiful addition to your garden.

The Anemone also known as windflowers are part of the buttercup family. There are about 120 different species of this plant.

They tend to bloom in the spring and in the fall. They come in many bright colors such as red, purple, white and pink. My favorite is the pink windflower.

Some popular types of Anemone flowers are the Grecian windflower, which is a tuberous plant that you will find in white, pink, or blue. They grow in early spring and range from 6 to 8 inches tall. They need to be kept in a sunny spot.

There is a Snowdrop version that also blooms in the springtime. They grow to be about a foot tall and have beautiful white flowers. They are a herbaceous perennial that can grow best in the shade.

The wood windflower is another type of this flower that grows mostly in North America. It blooms white flowers with a hint of pink, and grows to be anywhere from 4 to 12 inches tall.

Windflowers need to be planted in a well-drained area with nutritious soil. They need to be watered regularly as they will not survive in a drought. While all of them grow differently, most windflowers should be planted in the fall in order to grow in the spring.

The tubers of the Grecian needs to be soaked first, and then planted at about 2 to 3 inches deep.

The snowdrop can be planted in fall or spring in warmer climates, and in the spring in cooler climates.

All of these flowers are beautiful and unique in their own way. Make sure you know which ones grow best in your area.
